Description

Little Language Italian Group uses small groups, playgroup tactics for the young including songs and toys, to teach Italian through an immersion type program. In addition to nursery rhymes and songs for the younger kids, for older kids traditional activities such as dance and drama are offered in Italian so that kids can learn in a natural environment. They serve a variety of ages including:

Infant/Little Toddler Italian Playgroup (Birth - 3 yrs)

Musical activities include choral singing, dancing and playing simple percussive instruments. Infants and toddlers are exposed to the phonetic sounds of the Italian language during the most important stages of early language development.

Independent Toddler Italian Playgroup (3 - 4yrs)

More music, games, dancing and songs with the addition of thematic visual materials, coloring and stories. Children are engaged through educational play, utilizing repetition, props, toys, instruments and manipulatives.

Children's Italian Playgroup (5 - 7 yrs)

This playgroup is designed to combine music with auditory/visual learning on a more intense level. Children are motivated to converse in Italian through age appropriate songs, games, instruments, dance, activities, toys and props. Thematic lessons introduce reading, writing and short phrases as well as the phonetics of the Italian language.

Kids Italian Playgroup (8 - 12 yrs)

A more advanced playgroup engaging students in reading, writing, singing, and conversational activities and games. Vocabulary, sentence structure and pronunciation are reinforced through visual-auditory-tactile learning, choral repetition, role-playing, reading and writing.

The program was founded by Alberta Gulotta-Tamburello, a former Staten Island, NYC Public School teacher of Italian and Spanish. For over twelve years, she has been teaching the Italian language, art and culture to children.
